MPPA Opposes A.G. Nomination

JW, March 5, 2014

Montana Senator John Walsh voted with the MPPA and NAPO and opposed the nomination. Thank you Sen. Walsh for listening to our request!

Senate Blocks Nomination for Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division at DOJ

The Senate voted 47-52 to block the nomination of Debo Adegbile to be the next Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice.

NAPO has expended all available efforts to oppose Mr. Adegbile’s nomination, which was evidenced when Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) (Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee) highlighted NAPO’s opposition to the nominee during his floor statement. Under Mr. Adegbile’s leadership, the Legal Defense Fund of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People volunteered their services to defend Mumia Abu-Jamal, a convicted cop-killer. Abu-Jamal was convicted of murdering Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner in 1982. Mr. Adegbile worked tirelessly to free this unrepentant cop-killer. The nominee’s efforts led to the overturning of the just sentence Abu-Jamal received for murdering a valuable member of the law enforcement community.

We cannot thank our members enough for the support you have provided. Our efforts led to eight Senate Democrats joining with Republicans to vote against Debo Adegbile.
